Let’s Review a COVID-19 Impact Checklist: Considering Possible Implications on Student Performance

COVID-19 has turned our worlds upside down, forcing us to a new normal. As many adults try to deal with the realities of death, job loss, decreased income, social distancing, virtual instruction, and heightened stress, the negative impact of such stressors are likely to impact children as well.  Consequently, it is important evaluators examine and document such stressors for every child being assessed or considered for referral. What’s new to the Battelle® Developmental Inventory™ Third Edition and How Can it Help My Practice?

As a child ages, they typically attain critical skills and behaviors sequentially from simple to complex. The Battelle® Developmental Inventory, Third Edition™ (BDI-3) measures mastery of developmental milestones in five global domains: Communication, Social Emotional, Adaptive, Motor, & Cognitive. Assessment of developmental strengths and needs is critical for early development centers, private clinicians, schools, and others seeking to determine the need for educational resources or interventions and build plans accordingly. This session will focus on the use of the new, completely re-designed BDI-3, and key features such as: new items, updated content aligned to the most recent developmental milestones, and an enhanced mobile scoring application with online and offline administration options.

Client Termination from Practice

This interactive discussion will address best practices when terminating a client from the practice or transferring care to another provider while avoiding the potential for a claim of abandonment. Custody Issues When Treating Minors

This presentation will focus on best practices related to caring for a minor of divorced parents, including review of the custody agreement related to authorization to make treatment decisions, parent disagreement over treatment, and requests for release of information to the parents. We anticipate discussion/questions on the challenges of remaining objective and advocating for the minor client, especially when dealing with custody battles and working with a guardian ad litem.

This interactive presentation will focus on what a subpoena is, why a subpoena is sent, and what to do when a subpoena is received, whether for records or for a deposition. Through the discussion/questions we hope to reduce the anxiety about subpoenas and provide best practices when psychotherapy notes are requested, obtaining client consent, and ensuring notification of your professional liability coverage insurance carrier.
