Finding Presence Through Pilates
As we find ourselves facing new challenges arising from social distancing and isolation, it is more important than ever that we bring attention to our physical and mental well-being. Through a committed mindful movement practice, we can counteract the increased levels of stress and anxiety typical of an unfamiliar, unpredictable environment. Originally created to address health issues among those interned in camps during WW1, the Pilates method of exercise approaches the body as a whole system to move and breathe in a way that promotes self-healing. In this class, we will draw upon the original work of Joseph H. Pilates to keep the body flowing in the ways it was designed to function. While using the breath to facilitate each movement, we will bring awareness and awaken the connection between mind and body. Finding this relationship and using our senses to observe the environment, we will bring ourselves to the present and find peace in the now.
